Neo Update, Clarifications

•January 27, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Though the rumors that circulated when the new manager took over have largely (and thankfully) died down, the fact is that all of the nights at Neo are currently under review. If any of the nights aren’t drawing the numbers they should, they might be in jeopardy — so for the next couple of months it’s crucial for people to come out and support the nights they like if they don’t want to see a change.

With Rob/Razer-X stepping down as the resident Friday night DJ, Fridays at Neo are going to be in flux for a bit. Both Nexus 6 (3rd Fridays) and Pandemic (1st Fridays) will be ongoing. The new manager is looking to experiment with some other events and DJs on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Fridays, however, before he settles into a new routine. You’ll see some DJs from Kinetic filling in on Fridays where we can, and this is where Singularity fits in. Because Nexus 6 was ongoing but Singularity dates will be in flux, we decided it best to label them differently, at least for now.

Nexus 6 has always been our venue for introducing modern industrial and rhythmic noise to a wider audience at Neo. While we noize up the place at our Kinetic nights, focusing on harsher powernoise, glitch, IDM, and similar harsh but dancey electronics, Nexus 6 is more of a middle ground between that and the music you hear at Neo’s other industrial nights. Nexus 6 is by no means pure noize — we play to the crowd, we listen to the request list, and we spin some classics, all while injecting fresh new stuff and exposing Neo regulars to a selection of the great new tracks out there. If you want to be introduced to new artists and new club hits, you’ll enjoy N6.

Singularity will in the same vein as N6. You’ll get your dosages of EBM and dark electronics along with some newer techno-industrial and rhythmic noise. If you like Razer-X’s nights or Nexus 6, you won’t be disappointed. And if you like stuff that’s a bit more ethereal and melodic, but still dancey, come on the early side.

So if you want to see more in the vein of Singularity and Nexus 6 on a consistent basis for Fridays, come out and support the nights! Let’s show ‘em what we got!

The turnout at Nexus 6 last night was phenomenal — thanks to everyone who came out to show support! We rallied the troops to show the new management we could pull the numbers, and the response was excellent. It seemed like everyone had a great time, a lot of you stayed to the end, and you even danced to the VNV Nation-Lady Gaga mash-up we inflicted upon you! Well done.

Last night was not without its sad notes, though. Chief among them was that Rob K., aka DJ Razer-X, put in his notice last night that he would not be spinning at Neo anymore, after 10+ years of residency. Rob’s always been a down-to-earth, no-drama, request-fulfilling, real mensch to work with, and we owe him a big thanks for letting us step in on one of his Friday nights to start up Nexus 6. We’re sorry to see him go and we hope we’ll still be seeing him around and maybe even spinning at other events. Thanks for everything Rob!

Changes at Neo/Nexus 6 Tonight 1/15!

•January 15, 2010 • 1 Comment

As many folks have heard, there have been some sudden changes at Neo. Despite the rumors, Neo is NOT closing. The old manager is gone and new management is in place. We talked to the new guy in charge, tonight, and confirmed a few things.

First off, there are no plans to change anything with the next couple of weeks. The new manager is going to be reviewing how things go at Neo for a little while before he makes any major changes. He did mention wanting to clean the place up a bit and fix the sound, both of which are needed and welcome.

Yes, this means that Nexus 6 is still on for tonight (Friday Jan. 15)!Even better, we negotiated some changes. For one, the cover price has been reduced from $7 to $5, so it’s once again the same as other Friday nights. DJs Gremlin and Sprite will be rocking the dance floor, with a little bit of Licious thrown in too. Neo resident Razer-X will be taking the night off.

Since the new management is reviewing the state of affairs at Neo, this also means that we need to make a good impression and show ‘em what we’ve got. We’ve seen a lot of panic about Neo on Facebook and other places, and even some talk of boycotting the place. This is the opposite of what needs to happen. We need people to come out and show your support over the next few weeks — not just to Nexus 6 but to all the Neo nights that you favor. So come on out and support your local dark and aggressive dance nights!
